First Global Report on Disability

The World Health Organization and the World Bank jointly produced the very first Report on Disability. Over 1 billion people live with disabilities in the world. And the prevalence is increasing due to population ageing and a global increase in chronic health conditions. It is more common among women, older people and poor households. Children with disabilities are less likely to complete or even start an education and also have higher mortality rates. Women with a disability are more likely to become victim of discrimination but also sexual violence. People with a disability have fewer economic opportunities but they usually have higher costs in healthcare.  All kind of disabilities are covered in the report e.g.: quadriplegia, mental health, blindness etc. But according to the report the key challenge is the complexity and diversity of disabilities.
