The World Health Assembly decided on a new Global Health Sector Strategy for HIV/AIDS 2011-2015 aiming at providing comprehensive input on what health sectors can do to contain the epidemic. Headed by WHO, the strategy places great emphasis on health and community systems and their ability to respond adequately. In 2009 only a third of people in need of treatment obtained it. However, also some progress in the fight against HIV/AIDS can be noted: In the last ten years, infection rates have fallen by almost 20%. The strategy is the result of consultations with some 100 member states, civil society and other key players, and seeks to further promote sustainable action against the epidemic.
